Because Father´s Day is an important time to say thank you to our fathers, we could show Bunnies´ Fathers what we have learned along this year. It was a wonderful time for fathers to see and enjoy our Open Class, where they could watch their kids speaking, singing, and working in English.
Also, as a tradition, we celebrated the Sport´s Day where parents and kids participated of some competitions such as Volleyball, Football, Basketball, Handball Athletism and a Gymkana for the younger children. And, of course, it couldn´t miss the traditional contest of bars, where the four Houses showed its organization and enthusiasm. All of my Bunnies came, but just a few participated. I hope next time they enjoy and participate more in these funny activities. Let´s see some of these moments.
St. George School is a school that is concerned about the religious themes. It is not a religious school, although here the different religious cults are respected, our teachers try to give their students some religious knowings as general culture. It´s known around the world that May is the "Virgin Mary´s Month". So, in our school we celebrated her month with a procession around the school. Here, my children sang some songs, listened to the rosary´s prayer and showed respect for Virgin Mary. Let´s see how my Bunnies participated in this.
This year, in January, at St George School, I met a sweet boy called Joaquín, in “Summer School”. The first time I saw him, I asked him “What´s your name?” and he answered me “My name is Peter”. So, I called him “Peter” every time. Once, at break time, I told him”Peter, don´t do that!” and his teacher told me “His name is not Peter, his name is Joaquín”. Then, I asked his mother about that and she told me that the name “peter” was because of “Peter Parker-Spiderman”, that is his favorite comic. It was so embarrassing and funny. Later on, I noticed that I would be Nursery Bunnies´ Teacher, and he would be my student. I was so happy because he is a good kid.
Last April his mom told me that they had to go to Colombia in May. So, Joaquín won´t be with us anymore. It´s so sad. Now, remembering every time I was teaching him, I smile a lot seeing him with his Spiderman´s mask, playing with his friends, singing the school songs or playing “Twinkle, Twinkle” on his piano toy. I want to share with you his sweetness and his funny moments.
Mother's Day is a day honoring mothers for all the love and care that our mother gives us all her life. This year in our school we celebrated Mother`s Day with a performance in where our children sang a couple of songs. Let´s enjoy their prformance.
Because our mother is so special, I want to share with you an acrostic that I found in internet, that shows a little bit that we fell to our mothers.
Besides it is important that children learn more than academic subjects. Our school concerns about artistic subjects, too. That´s the reason that in Nursery´s Annual Program children take lessons such as Dancing and Music. Besides Additional Activities where children take lessons such as Art, Ballet, etc. Every Thursday my Bunnies take dancing lessons with Miss Jessy. They wait for these lessons the whole week and they are full of enthusiasm. They are learning some dances such as “Negrillos”, “Carnaval de Cajamarca”, “Bailes de la Selva”, and it is really gratifying to see how they are improving their dance skills for the “Festidanza” a contest that we will celebrate in November and involves all the students of the school. The winner class in each level gets a price. Just enjoy their dance!
Everyday before start our classes, we do the Permanent Activities, that consist in greet everyone, see how is the weather each day, the calendar (month, day, date)and who is present everyday (attendance). During these activities, children sing, recite and follow instructions in English. They sing songs such as "Good Morning" (greeting), "Little Window" (weather), "There are 7 Days" (calendar) and "Hello!" (attendance).
Children enjoy a lot these activities because all of they participate, show their independence doing everything by themselves, notice who has come, and overall, sing a lot that is something that my Bunnies love.
Some of my Bunnies were part of the Summer School, they with Miss Carolina and Miss Elena were, from January 7th to 31st, learning a little bit of English and made a lot of activities that were part of our Summer School such as: Tae Kwon Do, Music, Computing, Swimming classes (that children enjoyed a lot) and more. The most of them are my Bunnies now. But, some were to different schools and I really miss them. Let´s Know them.
As a Saint George School’s teacher I have also learned a lot because we are always attending workshops, conferences, and some interesting events. This February we had a lot of workshops such us Inquiry Approach with Lesley and Kenneth Snowball and Franz Guerra; Math workshop with Troy Gardner, But, where I learned the most is with my co-workers that are always ready to help and give they support every time it is needed. I feel very proud of my children and very happy to be part of this family.
Our school is well – known in the world of education because of its English activities. Little children start at the school receiving English teaching through songs, chants, poems, rhymes and they are also receiving most of their classes in English (80%).Active as children are, they enjoy a lot of learning through songs, chants, poems and rhymes as well as lots of vocabulary. They also produce their own stories which they tell to us and are shown in the anthologies that we make every year.
